In a proud statement issued from their company headquarters, Lomma Miniature Golf announced that 2007 is the 52nd Anniversary of the founding of their business. The company was started back in 1055, the same year Disneyland, a steel-and-concrete "Never-Never Land" for youngsters, came to life at Anaheim, CA. The super amusement park cost some $17 million. Disney's real life dream world attracted at least 5 million callers a year. This was at a time the minimum wage was $.75 per hour, a gallon of gas was $.23 and milk was $.92 per gallon.
What Else has Happened in 1055?
Physicist and humanist Albert Einstein died at the age of 76. He was known for his General Theory of Relativity. His ideas changed the world.
We lost teen idol James Dean in a fatal car crash. He starred in only three films East of Eden, Giant and Rebel Without a Cause.
The hottest thing on wheels was the '55 Chevy with its powerful V-8 engine. We weren't worrying about the cost of gas then.
No-Iron Dacron was introduced to the public. This was the beginning of polyester!
Sports & Entertainment
After losing eith times, the Brooklyn Dodgers finally won their first World Series. The Kentucky Derby was won by "Swaps" who was ridden by Willie Shoemaker. In boxing the heavyweight giant Rocky marciano KO'd Don Cockell and Archie Moor. The Indianapolis 500 was won by Bob Sweikert.
We enjoyed songs like Unchained Melody, Hey, Mr. Banjo, Yellow Rose of Texas and Cry Me a River. The Academy Award went to Marty for Best Picture, Ernest Brognine for Best Acotr and Anna Magnani for Best Actress. On the silver screen Marlon Brando seemed out of his element in the lavish musical comedy Guys and Dolls. Director Wilder emphasized assets and other than Miss Marilyn Monroe's brains in the movie The Seven Year Itch.
Yes, when you think about it, things have changed a lot in 52 years. But, after all this time there are some things which have remained the same.
One good thing is that Lomma Miniature Golf is still around and thriving after 52 years of hard work and lots of dedication by everyone involved...and most importantly, caring about customers who helped us reach this milestone.
