Dinner to Recognize BBB Longevity
Published in the BBB Bulletin

The
BBB's Torch dinner on November 10, 2005 will recognize members of the
BBB who have more than 30 years of BBB membership.
Education Direct, 925 Oak St., Scranton, PA has been a BBB member
since September of 1962. United Gilsonite Laboratories, 1396
Jefferson Ave., Scranton, and Lomma Enterprises, Cherry St.,
Scranton have been BBB members since 1963.
The
three are the patriarchs of the 14 regional businesses that have been
BBB members for 30 years or more.
According to BBB Executive Director Jack Voorhees, the BBB will
recognize these stalwart participants at the Torch Award dinner and
will profile them beginning in this and the next few issues of the
BBB newsletter in an effort to thank them for their support.
"We
really do appreciate the commitment of this core of businesses. One
of the reasons the Bureau is able to expand services to 20 counties
is due to their unwavering dedication to business ethics."
MEMBER SINCE 1963
According to Ralph Lomma, his miniature golf course fabrication
company provided office space and secretarial help to the Better
Business Bureau more than 30 years ago when the organization was in
jeopardy of closing in this area.
Today,
he is proud of his support of the BBB now as he was then. "I have
believed in it since its inception. The BBB provides a worthwhile
service today - more so than ever - because of so many swindlers and
con artists that have access to information from all over the world."
He adds,
"BBB membership is a wonderful sales tool. It also forces people to
do the right thing and treat others fairly."
Lomma
Enterprises is the largest builder of miniature golf courses in the
world, and is headquartered in Scranton with 20 full time employees.
Another 25 staffers are stationed around the world as part of the
international sales team.
He says
as much as 75 percent of the company's business is done over the
Internet and BBB membership provides the company with a source for
credibility.
Some
recent Lomma golf course shipments went to Ireland, St. Kitts, and
Mexico.
